Percentage Values

Whenever tagging a percentage, pay attention to the precision and data type of the elementThe representation of a financial reporting concept, including: line items in the face of the financial statements, important narrative disclosures, and rows and columns in tables..

Scale

In DM Word, whenever a value is tagged with an element that has a data type of percentItemType, the decimal place is moved two places to the left in the instance document. For example, for a source document value 27%, tagA tag renders a value in XBRL, made up of an element, a calendar, numeric units and a member, if needed. the number “27” with an element which is percentItemType, which populates the instance document with the correct value .27. Some percentage values will instead be tagged with an element that has a data type of pureItemType, and use a scale of Hundredths.

Precision

When determining precision, first determine whether digits as shown is appropriate for the element used (see INF vs. 0). For example, an element that is for a Stated Interest Rate might use digits as shown, while an Average Interest Rate or Effective Interest Rate would not. Next, look at the data type of the element used.

  • When digits as shown is not appropriate, and the data type of the element is percentItemType. DM Word recognizes the need to adjust the precision by two decimal places, so tag the value with the precision Whole Number (0).
  • When digits as shown is not appropriate, and the data type of the element is pureItemType, tag the value with the precision Hundredths.
