Tables Not Banding
If tables won't band, try the troubleshooting steps below.
Table Banding Not Working
Band Current Table is Grayed Out
If the Band Current Table setting is not available for a table, try these techniques and then retry:
- Click within the table again, so you can see your cursor in one of the rows.
- Verify that the Start Banding marker is set correctly. If the previous start banding row was deleted or hidden, a new one must be set up. See Table Banding.
Band Current Table Does Not Apply Blue Shading
- If the table is at the end of a report section, check out the entire report before banding. To prevent the problem in the future, check out the entire report, then set the report section to end with a non-breaking space and hard return (rather than on the table itself).

Word Table with Hyperlinks Not Banding
Table banding may not work on some word tables which contain hyperlinks, such as the Exhibit Index. To update the shading, you may Manually Apply Table Banding.
Band All Tables
If tables are not banding when using Band All Tables, ensure that every table is within a report section and has an appropriate Start Banding row set up. Verify whether the tables will band individually using Band Current Table instead.
If you’re trying to use table banding, but Band Current Table is grayed out, here are a couple steps you can try. First check that the section or report is checked out to you. And then the next step is to click in the table, then retry table banding.
The most common cause we see for Band Current Table being grayed out or not available is that no Start Banding marker has been set up for the table, such as when a table is brought in for the first time. By right clicking on the table and then opening up View Tagging Table, I can check the Start Banding marker. Here I would expect machinery and equipment to be the first blue row, so number 6, if I right click on the row number, should have start banding selected. It doesn’t, so I’ll go ahead and select Start Banding, OK, and then try Band Current Table again.
In this case, I just confirmed that there is a Start Banding row set up for the table. However when I use Table Banding and then Band Current Table, no blue banding appears. I can see that I have only this section checked out, and this table is at the very end of the report section. To correct this issue, we’ll need to check out the entire report. With the entire report checked out, I can try table banding again, and we can see that it works fine now. To correct the issue permanently, we’ll want to make sure there’s a space between the table and the end of this report section. On the Home ribbon, I’ll turn on Show Formatting Marks. I can place my cursor in the last row of the table, press my down arrow, and then Clear All Formatting, and then I want to add a non-breaking space right here to just hold the end of that content section, by pressing Control Shift Space or Alt 0160. When complete, you can turn back off Show Formatting Marks.
